Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Who is DAAS?
A: DAAS is a contemporary artist based in Austin, Texas, known for creating large‑scale murals and public art projects around the world. His style blends abstract and representational forms, focusing on bold shapes and vivid color, aiming to create works that uplift communities.

Q: What kinds of projects do you do?
A:

  • Public murals (commissioned, city walls, community initiatives)

  • Commercial murals (building exteriors, interior feature walls)

  • Studio works / paintings

  • Installations and experimental work

  • Collaborations (brands, cultural institutions)

Q: How do I commission a mural from you?
A: Commissioning a mural is a collaborative process. Here’s how it works:

  1. Start the Conversation:
Reach out through the [Inquiry Form] or email with your ideas. Include location, wall size, timeline, budget range, and any reference images if available.

  2. Initial Consultation:
We’ll discuss your goals, the space, and creative direction. Based on that, I can provide a rough estimate and outline the general approach.

  3. Contract & Proposal Phase:
To move forward with design work, we’ll enter a contract phase. This includes a project agreement and deposit. Once in place, I’ll develop concept sketches and a full proposal detailing materials, timeline, and any permit needs.

  4. Schedule & Execution:
After you approve the design, we set the schedule. I’ll handle site prep, painting, and finishing touches, and can offer advice on care and maintenance.

Q: What is the typical timeline for a mural project?
A: That depends on scale, permits, weather, site prep, and complexity. A smaller wall (say a few hundred square feet) might take a few weeks, whereas large, multi-story murals or institutional projects might take many months (including planning and approvals).

Q: What materials and techniques do you use?
A: I use durable exterior-grade paints, weather-resistant coatings, and where relevant, specialized sealants to protect against UV and moisture. I also adapt techniques (scaffolding, lifts, grid systems, projections) depending on the site.

Q: How much does a mural cost?
A: Each project is unique., but in general, most projects fall between $25,000 - $75,000. The cost depends on size, complexity, site access, materials, permits, and travel if the site is not local. After reviewing your project brief, I'll provide an estimated quote.

Q: Do I need permits or approvals?
A: Often yes, especially for public walls. The client or property owner is usually responsible for securing permits or approvals from municipal, historical, or architectural review boards. I can assist with documentation and guidance.

Q: Can I use one of your existing designs or photos?
A: Usually I create custom work to suit each space and client. However, depending on the project and usage rights, there may be opportunities to adapt existing motifs or license prints. Let’s discuss what you have in mind.

Q: What is the maintenance / durability of murals?
A: Properly coated murals can last many years. I recommend occasional inspection, touch-ups, and protective clear coats depending on the environment (sun exposure, humidity, vandalism risk).

Q: Do you travel for mural commissions?
A: Yes — I’ve done projects internationally (Japan, etc.) and across the U.S. Art of DAAS+1 For distant sites, travel, lodging, shipping of materials, and logistical setup are factored into the project cost.

Q: Can I buy your original paintings or prints?
A: Yes — in addition to murals, I maintain studio works and sometimes sell original paintings or limited edition prints. Contact me for current availability.

Q: How can I collaborate or partner (brands, events, nonprofits)?
A: I welcome collaborations with organizations, brands, events, and community groups. Please reach out via Inquiry with your vision and goals, and we can explore how art can amplify your mission.

Q: How can I stay updated or see your latest works?
A: You can follow me on Instagram (handle: @daas) Instagram, check out the Murals and Videos sections on my site.

Q: Do you offer art education, workshops or public engagement?
A: Yes, for certain projects I incorporate community workshops, mural planning with students or local groups, or public engagement events. If you are interested, let me know and we can include that in your commission.
